Searching south for lead in feature film

We’ve been tapping away on laptops for four years now developing the script for our first feature SHOPPING. We have cast some lead teens/child actors and now are moving into looking to street cast some of the adult roles…. Covered in the article below:
Two award-winning Kiwi film Directors have their sights set on the South Island to find the next star of New Zealand’s next big hit film SHOPPING.
Award winning film Directors Mark Albiston and Louis Sutherland have enjoyed a fantastic run of international success with their two previous short films that were inspired by Albiston and Sutherland’s time growing up together on the Kapiti Coast. Run, a story from Sutherland’s youth, received an honourable mention from the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2007 then in 2009 Albiston and Sutherland went back to Cannes to receive a Special Distinction Award, this time with a story from Albiston’s childhood called The Six Dollar Fifty Man. After more than 30 international awards including Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals, The Six Dollar Fifty Man had Albiston and Sutherland long listed for an Academy Award in 2010.
With support from New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC), Albiston and Sutherland are embarking on their first feature length film ‘Shopping’ and expectations are high.
Rather than only casting for actors in a traditional sense, Albiston and Sutherland are looking to the streets for real characters, Albiston says, “Acting experience is not necessary but having attitude is everything.” It’s a similar technique that they used to great effect while casting for Run and The Six Dollar Fifty Man. “After weeks of casting, Oscar Vandy-Connor, who went on to win best actor at the NZ Film & Television Awards, was discovered right under our noses in our production office.” said Sutherland.
For Shopping, Albiston and Sutherland believe that there is a rawer texture to uncover for the role of the Father and are also searching at grass root level to fill the part of the Samoan mother in their film.
